Beauty Tips for Girls

1) Start Waking Up Earlier

Some of us have no choice about waking up early—we've got to get our kids to school or we've got a job that starts at 6 am. But if you can carve out some time in your schedule to start waking up earlier, you'll notice big improvements in your beauty routine and life balance as a whole. If you're trying to lose weight, there's also compelling research that shows people who wake up earlier weigh less and have healthier habits than those who hit snooze until noon. So set your alarm clock a little earlier; it could pay off immensely!

2) Drink Lots of Water

Drinking plenty of water is a surefire way to keep your skin looking its best. Not only does it hydrate your body, but it also keeps your skin looking healthy and radiant. So drink up—you’ll feel and look great! Our Beauty Guru loves to say: Wash your face at night, drink a glass of water with lemon juice in it before bed, and wake up with perfect skin every morning! It really works!

3) Moisturize

The right moisturizer can have a big impact on your skin. The important thing is to choose one that is hydrating enough for your skin type but light enough so that it doesn’t feel like you’re wearing anything at all. It also helps to remember to re-apply often (especially if you are exercising or outside) and make sure to use SPF in addition, no matter what time of year it is. It may be hard to believe now, but when you’re older you will look back on these years as some of your best—and with good skin care habits like these, you’ll be happy with how young you look!

4) Eat Healthy

Nutrition is one of those things that everyone knows to be important but few prioritize. If you’re trying to lose weight and have some growing up to do, it’s time for a nutrition overhaul. Eating plenty of protein, fiber and healthy fats will keep you feeling full longer and help reduce your total calorie intake for each day. This is especially important for teens who are still growing—you need lots of nutrients so your body can continue developing in a healthy way. To lose weight safely but quickly, make an effort to eat healthy foods on a daily basis while increasing physical activity whenever possible.

5) Wear Sunscreen

No, really. The Environmental Working Group found that 6 in 10 sunscreens don’t provide adequate protection against harmful UV rays (which can lead to signs of aging and skin cancer). A good broad-spectrum SPF 30 sunscreen is a great place to start (buy it at Target for $9.99), but make sure you apply liberally and reapply throughout the day if you’re spending time outdoors. Oh, and take off that makeup, too—when exposed to sunlight, heavy metals in some products can actually speed up your skin’s aging process. More beauty tips: hydrate with hyaluronic acid serum, drink water every morning before you leave your house, don't sleep with your makeup on again and use lip gloss!

6) Don’t Touch Your Face

Your hands are full of dirt and germs. Don’t put them on your face. Wash your hands regularly and don’t touch your hair or face until you have. If you wear make-up, wash it off at night before bed so that when you wake up, you start with a clean slate to take care of before doing anything else.

7) Keep Combing Hair

The right hairbrush can make a difference. If you keep combing your hair after showering, you are damaging it and making it frizzy. Use a silk or boar bristle brush to detangle your hair after washing and conditioning to reduce static and avoid breakage. Start at the ends of your hair, working up slowly as you brush from bottom to top. Avoid brushing through tangles too quickly – use slow strokes in an upward motion instead, as that will cause less pulling and damage on hair follicles.

8) Don’t Ignore Acne

No matter how old you are, there will always be times when your skin just decides to not play along and break out in acne. Many of us think that our teen years are over once we hit a certain age, but no matter what our age is, if we’re going through hormonal changes or experiencing stress at work or home, it’s possible for those pesky pimples to pop up again. If you want to look and feel your best all day long and can’t stand a blemish on your face, consider finding some effective ways to get rid of acne. Here are some beauty tips for girls who want to keep their faces pimple-free

9) Use Lip Balm

One of our top beauty tips for girls is to keep lip balm with you at all times. If you're at school, keep it in your locker or backpack. And if you're out and about, store it in your purse or pocket for easy access. As a girl who likes to experiment with makeup, I always carry some lip balm wherever I go (I typically use Burt's Bees). Since balms are thicker than glosses and other types of lipsticks, they tend to do a better job protecting lips from sun damage (which causes wrinkles) and windburns—especially during colder months when we can't rely on our cars' heaters as much. Not only that, but lip balms are also good moisturizers.

10) Stretch Before Bedtime

A lot of people think that it’s a waste of time to stretch before bed, but when your muscles are really tight and tense, they can pull on ligaments and cause pain. If you’re in pain while you sleep or wake up with aches and pains, stretching before bed can be an effective way to relax your muscles so that you wake up feeling refreshed instead of sore. Stretching is easy too: just take five minutes to do some stretches designed to open up your hips and shoulders.
